Most CCTV is designed for a building with fibre to the door, mains power and someone on site during the day. Farms, forestry blocks, quarries, pump stations and remote yards have none of that, which is why ordinary camera systems so often disappoint out in the country.

Why rural sites break ordinary CCTV

The connection comes and goes

Cheap cameras stream everything to the cloud. On a rural connection that either saturates the link or quietly stops recording the moment the connection drops, and you only find out when you need the footage. Starlink, fixed wireless and rural mobile all have moments where the link is simply not there.

The power is not guaranteed

Solar, generators and long rural feeders mean outages are normal rather than exceptional. A system that needs a clean, permanent supply to stay reliable is the wrong system for a farm.

Nobody is watching a screen

Nobody is sitting in an office monitoring cameras while there is work to do. If the system cannot tell you when something matters, it is only useful after the event.

The site is a long way from anywhere

A fault that means a technician drives two hours each way is an expensive fault. On a remote site, how a system gets fixed matters as much as how it gets installed.

How we build it differently

Recording happens on site, not in the cloud

Nx Witness records to a server at the site. Footage is written to local storage whether or not the internet is up, and you connect over the link to view it. The connection is how you watch, not how you record, so a Starlink dropout costs you a few minutes of live view rather than the footage itself.

Built for Starlink, wireless and solar

Wireless, Starlink and solar setups mean professional CCTV can go almost anywhere, including sites with no fibre and patchy mobile coverage. Where there is no sensible place for a server on site, or you would rather not own one, we can host your Nx Witness system on our own cloud servers and handle the infrastructure, backups and availability for you.

Alerts that know a person from a cow

Basic motion detection on a farm is useless. Stock, shelter belts moving in the wind, rain and shadows will trigger it all night, and within a week the alerts get ignored. We configure AI-based detection so the system distinguishes people and vehicles from animals, foliage and weather. You can have different rules for working hours and after hours, triggers on specific zones such as a gate or a fuel tank, and alerts by mobile app or email. The aim is that an alert arriving at 2am means something.

It arrives already set up

Order through our shop and we can fully configure the cameras, server and software before anything ships: network settings, recording profiles, user access and Nx Witness loaded and ready. Equipment turns up prepared for your site, so time on the ground goes into mounting cameras and pulling cable rather than sitting in a shed configuring software over a slow link.

Fixed remotely wherever possible

Most faults do not need anyone on site. Using the remote capabilities of Nx Witness we diagnose problems, change settings, update software and reprogram from our base, which keeps call-out costs and downtime down. That matters far more on a remote property than it does in town. When a visit is genuinely required we coordinate with local installers.

What a rural system usually involves

  • Cameras chosen for the conditions rather than the catalogue, including long-range and low-light options where they earn their place
  • A recording server sized for how many cameras you run and how far back you need to look
  • Surveillance-grade storage, which is built to write continuously rather than sit idle like a desktop drive
  • Nx Witness licensing, one channel per camera, with no ongoing per-camera cloud subscription
  • Network switches and, where needed, links between sheds, gates and outbuildings
  • Remote access set up so you can check the place from the ute, the kitchen or another island

Already have cameras?

You may not need to replace them. Nx Witness supports a very wide range of camera brands, so in many cases we can bring existing equipment into a new system. You keep hardware that still works and gain better remote access, faster search, central management and proper alerting. That is usually the most cost-effective way to modernise an older installation.
